Apparently there's a rumor on Facebook going around that UPS is offering free shipping for anything under 50 lbs going to Haiti. This is nothing more than just a rumor. They are actually temporarily suspending all Haiti shipments from individuals and working directly with relief organizations until things can be figured out.There's also another rumor that American Airlines is taking doctors and nurses to Haiti for free and to call a number. I haven't seen any information about this on their website. I tried calling the number (which had a Manhattan area code) and a French speaking audio played. The only news they offer is if you donate to the Red Cross on their site, you can earn bonus miles. Of course, the catch is to donate a minimum of $50 and you must also be an AAdvantage member.
These aren't the weirdest internet rumors that have floated around. It's not as bad as believing that if you don't forward a certain email, you will die. It doesn't take much to debunk them; so no harm, no foul.
